The Jerome Levy Forecasting Center is the continuation of an unbroken line of experience with the profits perspective going further back in time than any other macroeconomic approach currently in use. In 1908 Jerome Levy had an insight into how one should study the economy: Focus on the sources of total business profits. Over the past century, Jerome Levy, his descendants, and the forecasting operation named for him have compiled an incredible record not only for calling turning points but for recognizing new trends, issues, and phenomena that would come to dominate the economic environment. Over the decades, the profits perspective has yielded scores of profound insights with important implications for decision makers. Conventional economic analysis failed to discern these points for a number of reasons. In some cases, important developments were assumed away; people do not recognize that which they believe to be impossible, and mainstream theory assumes that many kinds of real-world phenomena do not occur. In other cases, the prevailing view was not incorrect, but was sufficiently convoluted to thwart understanding of an issue. And, in still other cases, the prevailing view was simply wrong, based on logical errors that could not be made in analysis using the profits perspective.
